why regular treatments matter

Flea, tick and worming treatments are important for keeping pets healthy and comfortable, as these parasites can cause a range of health issues.

Fleas, for instance, can lead to intense itching, allergic reactions and even anemia, especially in young or small animals. Ticks can transmit diseases like Lyme disease and ehrlichiosis, which may have long-term impacts on a pet’s health if untreated. Worms, such as heartworms, hookworms and tapeworms, can affect a pet’s digestion, energy levels and overall wellbeing.

Flea, tick and worming treatments work by targeting the lifecycle of these parasites, helping to prevent infestations from establishing or spreading.

Preventative treatments like topical applications, year-long injections, oral tablets or collars contain ingredients that repel or eliminate parasites, protecting pets from bites and internal infestations. Routine use of these products is crucial, as many parasites are seasonal or thrive in warm, rural or bushland environments.

Regular parasite prevention supports a healthier, happier life for pets and can reduce the risk of parasite-related diseases spreading within households or to other pets.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why are flea, tick and worming treatments important for my pet?

Flea, tick and worming treatments protect pets from parasites that can cause discomfort, illness and potentially serious health issues. Regular treatments help prevent infestations, reduce the risk of disease transmission and support overall health by keeping your pet free from harmful parasites year-round.

  • My pet doesn't go out of the backyard. Does it still need tick prevention?

Although paralysis ticks are commonly present in bushland and coastal areas, native animals like possums and bandicoots can carry it to your backyard. That is why tick prevention is necessary even if your pet doesn’t go out of the backyard.

Ticks are most commonly active between August and March, but they can appear all year long. Daily searching of your pet is a must during peak times, and certain products can help in controlling ticks.

  • Should I get pet insurance?

Pet insurance is similar to human health insurance. If you choose the right policy, it can help to alleviate some costs of keeping your pet healthy.

  • Do you have accounts? What payment systems do you offer?

We respectfully advise that all fees must be paid at time of consultation or when your pet is discharged from hospital. EFTPOS facilities are available and we accept Visa and Mastercard.

  • What is the "Year-Long Flea & Tick Injection"?

We offer a year-long flea and tick injection that provides long-lasting protection against fleas and paralysis ticks with a single treatment. This injectable option is ideal for dogs where monthly or 3-monthly preventatives are difficult to administer or may be forgotten.

This product is a Schedule 4 (prescription-only) medication, meaning it must be prescribed by a veterinarian. For this reason, a veterinary consultation is required to determine whether this treatment is appropriate for your dog, based on their health history, lifestyle, and individual risk factors.

During your consultation, our veterinary team will discuss:

    - How the year-long injection works

    - Suitability for your dog’s age, weight, and health status

    - Potential side effects and safety considerations

Please speak with our team to see whether a year-long flea and tick injection is the right choice for your pet and to book a consultation.
